These two photographers have really caught my eye recently. I've been a fan of McGinley's work for a while now and his new series 'wondering coma' doesn't disappoint! Opening in a few weeks at Alison Jacques Gallery in London I hope to be able to see the show as McGinley continues his two signature styles of black and white portraits and the vivid, natural happenings. Although they are quite similar to his previous projects this series seems to delve a little deeper into developing his own style and he seems to have become more selective with his finals. As with his previous works there are some prints which I find fascinating and others slighting lacking, but overall his work is visually compelling and inspiring.
The second photographer, an unknown to me until recently is Alma Haser, a recent graduate of a BA (Hons) in Photography in Art Practice at Nottingham Trent University. Her series named 'hide and seek' first came to my attention by Dazed Digital and after some research I find I like her work, not so much all the aesthetic or her images but definitely some of the stories, concepts and visual ideas behind the shots. The 'hide and seek' series explores the idea of childhood play and is quite visually dynamic, depicting the game of hide and seek in a visually creative manner. I find the images very stimulating and appreciate how a simple concept can create such strong images.
