16.11.14 FILMS

Spike Jonze's modern romance Her. Starring Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, and Scarlett Johansson, the film tells the story of a heartbroken man called Theodore (played by Phoenix) who falls in love with "Samantha" - his advanced new computer's operating system (voiced by Johansson).

I recently watched this film and loved it, sometimes strange but always interesting the film touches on how technology is turning us into a world full of lonely people. The "sex" scene was slightly awkward but other than that I was stuck to the screen the whole way through.

It certainly goes on the shelve with 'Lars Real Girl' as an unusual film which I'm glad I stumbled upon!

Camping Trip 2014

My first chance in a while to take my camera out and have some fun. Photo's include Corfe Castle and Fossil Beach.

27.01.14 Inspiration: Adam Summers

Noted as the 'new way of viewing marine life', scientific photographer Adam Summers has used coloured dyes to create beautifully detailed images of a variety of fish!  These fantastic images were made by experimenting with different dyes and bleaches in an attempt to alter their pigments in the body. The result are these amazing 'coloured x-ray's' which offer an interesting insight into anatomy.

Getting Back to It

Its been a while since I've blogged, or even taking any serious photographs so I've decided to blog about Ryan Mcginley. Although his work is getting repetitive and you always no what to expect, I still find some beauty in his work, especially the nudes in landscape photos. Anything to get my interest in photography perked I guess, though I'm unlikely to take my friends down to the river and have them strip in the name of my art! Unless they ask me too!

These images are selected from Ryan McGinley's "Vertical Color of Sound"

26.04.14 Model Town

I took this photo several years ago when I visited New York and this one was taken 82 stories up the Empire State building (which was a huge achievement for me! Just ask anyone who's tried to make me get used to heights!).

I dug this image back out while clearing through as I saw a blog on Photoshop tilt shift and how it made your photographs appear to be toy/model photographs by adjusting the blur and focus.

I enjoyed this technique and it is just a bit of tilt shift fun!

02.02.14 Linford Bottom

I had a lovely walk in the mud with my dad today. Not many photo opportunities and very harsh sunlight so not excellent photography weather. Still it was nice to get out and have a chance to use my camera.

19.01.14 Good Start

After last week’s personal success, I rallied on with my new year’s resolution to take more photo's and returned to Moors Valley for another walk with the ever trusty Alex. Like last week, this one was shockingly cold and the rain had flooded many paths but that did not stop us! After a long walk to the lookout we returned to the car with wet socks and (for me at least) the satisfied feeling that photography brings me.

The light today was particularly beautiful and I've vowed to be out earlier once the weather is warmer! But never the less I felt a renewed enthusiasm as I waded through bog and balance precariously over streams, and got a few hours of beautiful light before it got a little too harsh.

Below are a few of the digital images (I did not take any film)

I spent quite a while just looking at light and how I was trying to capture it, using long exposures and only the natural light available at the time. I found being away from people very relaxing and soon realised it was nature and being in nature that inspired me. I've always wanted to photograph the moss on trees or the pebbles in a river (trust me I have a hard drive full of them!) and feel that as an extension of this, perhaps that is why I found 'the Taxidermists Cupboard' project the most rewarding.

With this in mind I want to challenge myself to be more creative as well as continuing to photograph nature.
