26.05.12 William Selden

Living opposite a park I often stop and talk to the people who walk their dogs on the green. I've always been interested in the relationship between owner and dog and in the past have done short projects on the types of people who own dogs. When I saw tis recent work by Selden I was imediately stuck by how quirky and individual each animal is and being a huge dog lover (having two poodles in the family also!) I felt I had to blog some of these awesome images.

William Selden was commissioned by London-based bi-annual publication Ponystep to shoot the annual British extravaganza that is "Crufts". In the series Selden gets up close and personal with all the perfectly "primped and preened superstars", including Dachshunds, French Bulldogs, and Dalmations.

25.05.12 Ryan McGinley Shoots Sienna Miller

Being a keen follower of Ryan McGinley's projects I was excited to see him shooting for British Vogue. Photographing Sienna Miller the New York-based photographer used his visual voice to good effect.

I really like this editorial which works on his work with animals. I very much enjoy the first image here which is full of movement and energy. Unfortunately I didn't like the front cover shot as it lacks the same kind of feel which the other images have. I look forward to seeing more of McGinley's awesome work!

23.05.12 Blommers Schumm for Cos

Photography duo Blommers Schumm (Anuschka Blommers & Niels Schumm) have just shot a new stripped back look book for Cos. The photographs almost take the form of a traditional school portrait with the model's blank expression and the drab blue backgrounds, but through perfect lighting and clean cut clothes, they instantly take on a contemporary edge.

Despite negative comments on the HUH. article relating to the lack of experimentation in this look book I still really like them. I've always been fascinated by portraiture, especially the everyday uses of it and I love the clean cut style which has been adopted in this 'school picture day' aesthetic which suits the type of clothing Cos are selling.
